Your Visit

First Visit

First Visit

Your first visit involves 40 minutes in the room with Dr. Jones and starts promptly at your booked time. This is used to review your past medical history, discuss the reason for referral, complete your physical exam, review relevant investigations and discuss a plan together.

Please complete the New Patient Intake Form prior to your appointment and submit it electronically. Note you will need a complete, current medication list with names and doses of everything you are taking.

Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your appointment time to check in. Come earlier if you did not submit the form online. This helps ensure all of the time allotted to your visit can be used to discuss your concerns.

Make sure you also bring the following:

  • A valid provincial health card

  • Clothing that allows for examination of your joints – e.g. short sleeve or sleeveless shirt, loose pants or shorts.

After the visit, you may be asked to book a follow-up appointment, complete blood work or other investigations such as x-rays.

We strive to be on time out of respect for everyone's busy schedules. Given the complexity of Rheumatologic issues, we may need to reschedule your appointment if you arrive too late to complete the visit. Please call us as soon as possible if you are running late.

Note that despite this, sometimes you or another person may require more time than originally scheduled for. This is usually to address unexpected emergencies. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation if this occurs and we are running behind schedule.

Follow-up Visit

Follow-up Visit

Your follow-up visit involves 20 minutes in the room with Dr. Jones. This is used to discuss your progress since last visit, changes in your health, review your labs, do a physical exam and discuss a plan together.

Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment time to check in and complete necessary paperwork. This helps ensure all of the time allotted can be used to discuss your progress and concerns. You can submit your forms electronically before you arrive.
If you have Ankylosing Spondylitis, please also submit a BASDAI form.

Please always bring the following:

  • A complete, current medication list

  • A valid health card

  • Comfortable clothing that allows for examination of your joints – e.g. short sleeve or sleeveless shirt, loose pants or shorts.

Scheduled for a planned joint injection? Pick up your steroid prescription from your pharmacy prior to your appointment and bring it with you.

Virtual Visits

Virtual visits may be done in some situations. Generally this is by phone to your preferred number, for brief visits like reviewing results.

In some cases, video appointments can be done. We use a secure platform incorporated directly with your electronic chart, called Medeo. Video visits through Medeo require the following:

  • Desktop computer: Google Chrome, a webcam and speakers or Mobile device (iOS or Android): Medeo App (free download), camera.

  • A high speed internet connection

Prior to your video appointment, you will receive an email to create and activate a Medeo account. Please do this at least one day before your appointment time to ensure things run smoothly and on time. On the day of the visit, log in and please wait in the virtual waiting room until Dr. Jones arrives. Please available for 15 minutes before and after your scheduled time in case we are running behind.

Medeo Patient Messenger

Medeo Secure Emails

Our clinic uses a messaging system through Medeo to send you documents or quick notes securely. With Medeo, Dr. Jones is able to contact you through your preferred email address without compromising your confidentiality. This is most often used to send you electronic requisitions during a virtual visit, but can also be for brief feedback about your labs or important updates. Importantly, with Medeo your confidential health information stays within the secure Medeo website at all times.

When you are sent a message in Medeo, you will receive an email to your usual email inbox that a Medeo message is available - click the link and you will be redirected to the secure website to view the message contents. Medeo messages must be initiated by Dr. Jones.

Although we also have a general, non-secure clinic email address, this is not to be used for confidential information, including reaching Dr. Jones with questions about your health. Always call the office and speak with reception (leave a voicemail if after hours) for any health related questions or issues.

Due to long wait times, patients may be charged a no-show fee for missed appointments. This includes confirmed appointments that are not attended, repeated late rescheduling of your appointment, and appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice. Any fees must be paid before the appointment will be rebooked. Thank you for helping us keep everyone's wait times as short as possible.
