Referrals

Dr. Larissa Jones is accepting referrals for the following:

• Suspected inflammatory arthritis, including but not limited to: 

  • Rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and enteropathic (IBD-associated) arthritis

• Suspected connective tissue diseases, including but not limited to:

  • Systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, Sjögren’s syndrome, and mixed connective tissue disease

• Suspected non-life threatening vasculitis 

  • Please note that urgent referrals should be made by phone to the Rheumatologist on Call via the Royal Alexandra Hospital Switchboard​

• Suspected polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR)

• Established rheumatological disease requiring transfer of care due to physician retirement or patient relocation

• Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) or auto-inflammatory disorders requiring transition to Adult Rheumatology care

• Difficult to manage crystal arthritis, such as gout

• Certain systemic diseases with arthritis manifestations on a case by case basis

Unfortunately, due to long wait times we may not be able to accommodate requests for a second opinion when a patient already has established Rheumatology care.

It is beyond our scope of practice to see patients primarily for chronic pain or mechanical back pain without an underlying systemic rheumatic disease.  Please redirect these referrals to a pain specialist, orthopedics, physiatry and/or sports medicine, as appropriate.  
 

Similarly, we do not see patients specifically to diagnose or manage hypermobility or hereditary connective tissue diseases. Please redirect these referrals to Medical Genetics if confirmatory testing is needed.

Currently, referrals cannot be accepted via Connect Care.

Referrals must include a clear clinical question, relevant symptoms, patient contact information, 
past medical & surgical history, allergies and current medication list. Incomplete referrals will be declined.
